LIFE WRITING ONLINE

Commit to six weeks of writing to deadlines. Twice a week you will be sent writing exercises designed to get you inspired to write. These exercises will develop into a larger story with guidance. At the end of the week you send in 1500-2000 words for feedback. Detailed feedback will benefit the redrafting process. The aim at the end of the course is to have produced 3-5000 words of polished work which might be a chapter for a book or a short story - a slice of life.

You can begin the course at any stage, once you have made payment, depending on your ability to commit to the writing tasks over six weeks. At the end of the course, you will have a Skype session or phone for a general chat on your writing.

travel writing oNLINE

You may have returned from somewhere or are thinking of heading off. Either way, this online course is designed to give you tips on how to write  professionally about your travels. Why would an Editor choose your story? What angle should you take; how much research is too much; how do you structure your story to fit with the word count required from magazines and newspapers. Weekly exercises help you fine tune the piece or consider what you need to gather while you are on the road.

A recent travel story I wrote published in Qantas Airways magazine

THREE MONTH MENTORSHIP

Begin the journey with a Skype or phone session on your project. Think of a personal trainer. This is for you if you would like a personal writing coach especially if you have an existing project and it may have reached a stalemate.. After assessing 20 pages of your work, you will be given exercises and guidance through drafts to develop a polished piece of prose by sending in 1-2000 words each week : either fiction or nonfiction either a first chapter or a short story.  This is also offered to students who have completed a retreat or an online course and would like further guidance.

SIX MONth mentorship

The six-month mentorship is offered to students committed to a larger project. If you have finished a three-month mentorship and want to continue regular feedback or you have a project underway and want continuing support in: structuring; honing literary techniques; bringing the story alive on the page, then a six month mentorship is for you. Developing a synopsis and working on pitching the project to a publisher is included and will help you map out the manuscript into a manageable project.

MANUSCRIPT ASSESSMENT/EDITING

I came across this message on the sand. Always aspire to great things.

Assessments of up to 30,000 words $370 includes an assessment report which gives a broad structural edit ie looks at the content, structure, style and point of view, narrative, dialogue. I prefer manuscripts to be sent in word doc. For larger manuscripts and line edits (detailed feedback), please contact me. Detailed edits cost $50 per hour. Depending on the amount of work I work through 1000-2000 words in an hour with detailed edits.
